A little of Japan

Shrine

These pictures were taken by two of my friends when we were visiting a shrine in Oita city on May 5.  When we arrived to the shrine there were a family with a little kid and an old man by himself. I observed how they paid respect to the kamis (gods) in the shrine. After they leave my friends and I did the same as them following the explanations or instruction that the shrine has.

First we washed our hands and drank  a little of water to purify ourselves, then we went to the gate of the little temple threw some coins in the wood box, played the bell to make the gods now that we were there, we bowed, clapped our hands twice and bowed again while making a wish. After that we took our fortune, I got middle luck.  There is also a tree where you can tie your fortune paper. If you got bad fortune you can tie it so the bad luck goes away and if you got good fortune you can tie so it becomes real or you can keep it with you, anyway works.

After that we enjoyed  the beautiful Japanese style garden next to the shrine, in this place you can find a castle or at least the remainders of it.

That was my first time in a shrine and I find very interesting how Japanese people are at the same time in a very technology advanced and scientific world and in a world filled with spiritual power and knowledge.

Takoyaki Party

that day I learned to cook takoyaki with a very good kansai sensei :) jajaja

…(my Japanese friends told me that kansai people can do anything)

They say I am a takoyaki pro now jujuju

quote

"‘Solitude is the profoundest fact of the human condition. Man is the only being who knows he is alone, and the only one who seeks out another. His nature -if that word can be used in reference to man, who has ‘invented’ himself by saying ‘no’ to nature- consists in his longing to realize himself in another. Man is nostalgia and a search for communion. Therefore, when he is aware of himself he is aware of his lack of another, that is, of his solitude.’"
Octavio Paz, The labyrinth of solitude
quote

Yes, I was 18 at that time…

getting make up done… look how thin i looked back then :O

and what we say girls??  you have not enough make up for a play until you look like a hooker… no kidding (tough i had still not enough, it was only a rehearsal)

but the problem of being in a musical and have rehearsals all week is that you don’t have time to go back home or to cook… then you start to eat like this almost everyday -_-

…then you get fat! (OMG look at me eating that!)

By Nezahualcoyotl, 1402-1472. Philosopher, warrior, architect, poet, and king of Texcoco.

Spanish translation printed on Mexico’s 100-peso note.

This guy was awesome, I love him, when he was young his kingdom, Texcoco, was taken by an enemy ”empire” he managed to go out of Texcoco before being killed then went alone all the way to another tribal town that where allies of his father, there he worked out, got an army and returned to take his kingdom again (it took some time)… and all their poetry is really awesome and beautiful

Motecuhzoma’s “Feathered Crown,” One-Step Closer to Returning to Mexico
Austria formalized an agreement with Mexico on Tuesday that will allow for the return of a feathered headdress believed to have once belonged to Motecuhzoma Xocoyotzin.
The headdress, which is often referred to as a feathered crown, is commonly known by most Mexicans as “El Penacho de Moctezuma,” or “Moctezuma’s feathered headdress.”
Austria’s Ministry of Culture and Education made clear that the headdress’ return to Mexico is considered a “loan,” not the repatriation one of Mexico’s most important cultural symbols.
The headdress is believed to have been taken to Spain by Hernán Cortés in 1519. Reports say Archduke Ferdinand of Austria obtained it in 1590. It’s been housed at the Museum of Ethnology in Vienna since the early 1800’s.
Much of the credit for leading the efforts to return the headdress to Mexico goes to Xokonoschtletl Gómora. See video of him below.
The majority of Mexicans, included those who responded to a question we posted on Twitter and Facebook, support having the headdress stay in Mexico.
